About the House

Built in the 1800s, the Swift Waters house requires special care – which, for us, is a big part of its charm. We have found it fulfilling to be mindful of the space we’re in, and guests have echoed that sentiment! The house’s quirks are mostly relevant to those running it, but we do ask guests to be aware of a few things.

  • Water usage: guests are welcome to use as much water as they need, but it is helpful to limit water usage where possible. We can give you more info on that during your stay – it’s nothing that should affect your comfort, we just want to be transparent.

  • Some of the rooms will hear squirrels on the ceiling at night – again, nothing crazy, but if that might bug you we can try to get you one of the beds where the sound is milder, or you can use headphones or white noise.

  • The pipes are also old, so having many people in the house can strain them. Hopefully this isn’t too graphic, but we ask people to throw out pee toilet paper rather than flushing, if they are comfortable doing so (none of these things are strictly enforced – just requests!).

  • We try to heat the house with the wood stove as much as possible to save on heating costs, but it is fully equipped with electric heat, and each room has its own thermostat.
