The Swift Waters House
Nestled in the rural township of Lackawaxen (Swift Waters in the Lenape language), the Swift Waters House provides the perfect solitude and proximity to nature to foster mindfulness and creativity, while being near the culture of creative towns like Narrowsburg, NY.
Spaces
When you enter the house, you’ll see our cozy kitchen space, which has some seating and a dining table. We often dine in the living room, where we have two daybed couches, armchairs, and a woodstove. Much of our communal time is in the living room – it’s a warm and peaceful space. In the living room is the downstairs bathroom with shower.
Upstairs is another bathroom with a tub (guests can use by request), and 3 bedrooms. There is also a window nook for reading or working, and a desk by the other window.
Guests are housed in the queen bedroom, twin bedroom (can add cot for those visiting together but not sharing a bed), or tiny bedroom, which is a low-to-ground twin bed. All rooms have at least 2 windows and a closet, dresser, or both.
We also have a barn (where Gideon stays) and a greenhouse structure we call the
Solarium. It’s pretty and can be used as a bedroom or workspace when it’s warm out.
About the House
Built in the 1800s, the Swift Waters house requires special care – which, for us, is a big part of its charm. We have found it fulfilling to be mindful of the space we’re in, and guests have echoed that sentiment! A few things to let you know:
Water usage: guests are welcome to use as much water as they need, but it is helpful to limit water usage where possible.
Some of the rooms will hear squirrels on the ceiling at night – again, nothing crazy, but if that might bug you we can try to get you one of the beds where the sound is milder, or you can use headphones or white noise.
We try to heat the house with the wood stove as much as possible to save on heating costs, but it is fully equipped with electric heat, and each room has its own thermostat.
